Day 24 week 4

Wow! Only 2 weeks left! It's crazy how fast these weeks go by! We finalized our ball hopper design today. The parts will be cut and powder coated in our beautiful 931 green! The ball hopped was covered in a fiber glass coating this afternoon. It was messy but fun work! When the fiberglass is dry we will spray paint it black.

Day 22 Saturday lunch!

Lunch was fantastic again! Saturdays are a great day for us to get help from our team mentors. We found out today that the bars on the front of the chassis were not as stable as we would have liked them to be. A stability bar was placed between them. Every part of the robot got some work done today.

Day 20

We are looking for a place on the robot to attach our ball shooter. Where we had wanted to attach it we discovered that the motor of the swerve drive was slightly in the way. It's an issue but we are working around it.

Day 19 Agitator

We designed a new agitator today. The balls kept getting stuck in the last design. It was decided that wood would be the better option. More work on the gear shoot. Engineering new ways to prevent the balls from getting stuck.

Day 18 Chassis

We started riveting the chassis together today. It's a lot of work but everyone seems to enjoy doing it! After we finish getting it completed Mr. Blair is going to powder coat it our beautiful 931 green!

Day 17 It's the start of week 3

Wow, it's already week 3! More work today the ball pick up mechanism and the agitator. The gear holder is coming together nicely.
We attempted to vacuum form the agitator but it did not turn out quite the way we wanted it to. We will begin to design a new one.

Day 15 FINALLY we get to have a Saturday lunch!

Saturday lunches are a tradition for 931! Today we had a Mexican theme! Everyone brought in some very tasty food!

Work began today on the agitator prototype. We have got some great ideas!

Day 11 Finally back!

School was cancelled on January 13th due to the forecast of the "ice storm". On Saturday the 14th, we were still not allowed in the building thus we lost another build day. Monday the 16th was a holiday causing us to miss yet another build day. We are happy to be back and eager to work on the robot!

Day 6

More ball shooter testing. After making a few tweaks we were able to shoot into the boiler with some pretty good results.

Day 5 We are learning from our mistakes

While prototyping our gear mechanism catcher we found that the inside of the holder was too small and the gear wouldn't slide inside all of the way. Time to move it and make in a half inch taller.

Day 4 *Gasp* More prototyping and even some engineering!

Testing our ball shooter. Working on making the gear mechanism better, checking out the RPMs and trying to get more precise and accurate force on the ball, of course more testing is needed.

Day 3 More prototyping

More work today on the gear pick-up prototype. Our programmer Rebecca has begun to brainstorm ideas for autonomous. We are hoping to place a gear on the peg and move past the base line.

Day 2

At today's meeting the team discussed what strategy we would like to go with and began to discuss possible mechanisms. We began to prototype a gear holder.
Our main goals that we are going to focus on are;

  • Gears
  • shooting
  • climbing
Component real estate  concept
How do we score?

Kick Off: Day 1

This years game Steamworks! It looks like a lot of fun and we can't wait to compete! After kick off the team went to The St. Louis Science Center to review game rules, brainstorm and do some strategizing.
